Return to the Glass Tower

The city breathed beneath Elena like a living beast—cold, mechanical, its pulse synced to the shimmering glass monoliths clawing toward a merciless sky. Fog curled around the base of the towering Drake Corporation skyscraper, swallowing the lower floors in a mist as opaque as the power struggles waging inside.

Elena’s heels clicked on the marble tiles of the lobby, sharp like a gunshot crack. Each step echoed off the cavernous walls textured with sleek steel and dark glass. The scent of expensive leather and faint traces of disinfectant clawed at her senses, mixing with an undercurrent of tension—like the building itself was holding its breath.

Her gaze locked on the prodigious edifice above—thirty floors of glass and steel, a fortress harboring secrets like venom behind its reflective surface.

Years away had sharpened everything—the bitterness, the hunger, the rage coiling in her gut. Her eyes flicked to the chrome reception desk where a young woman’s voice rippled softly over the intercom.

“Can I help you, Ms. Drake?”

Startled by the tone—tinged with suspicion, perhaps a touch of fear—Elena smiled thinly, voice low and measured, “I’m here to reclaim what’s mine.”

The receptionist blinked, fingers pausing mid-air. “I’ll notify security.”

Elena didn’t flinch. Years of exile had taught her patience was a weapon too. “Let them come.” She eased toward the elevators, every muscle taut, ready to snap.

The lift chimed dull and cold. The mirrored interior fractured her reflection—a ghost of a girl who’d once ruled this empire, now carved by time and survival. The doors slid shut, swallowing her into that vertigo shaft of glass and steel climbing skyward.

Floor by floor, the cityscape warped in the elevator’s pane. A reel of memories played behind Elena’s closed eyes—boardroom battles, whispered conspiracies, the searing sting of betrayal she’d nursed like a festering wound. Victor Kane’s name flickered in the shadows like a curse.

When the doors parted on the 29th floor, Elena stepped into a corridor void of warmth. The scent was different here—sterile, metallic. Each office door was a sealed vault, mysterious and unyielding.

She walked with purpose, the soft click of her heels suppressed beneath the plush carpet runner.

At the intersection, the Doctor’s Tower stretched its shiny spine across the horizon—a reminder that this metropolis was empire fighting empire, all under glass.

Then she saw it—her old office door, framed in brushed steel, its surface reflecting a hollow shell of the woman who once dreamed big enough to fill that room.

But it was sealed. Thick plastic wrap pressed tight like a tombstone across the entrance.

Elena’s hand hesitated before reaching out, fingers trembling with raw anticipation.

She peeled back the taped layers, uncovering a stark white sheet taped firmly where the door should have yielded to her touch.

*Property of Victor Kane—Authorized Personnel Only Disobedience will be met with consequences.*

The words cut through the silence like acid.

Elena’s breath hitched. Her fingers curled into fists. The past wasn’t finished with her. Not yet.

A sudden knock thundered at the far end of the hallway.

She spun around, heart hammering—not knowing if it was salvation or another trap.

The door creaked open a crack behind her office door. A faint silhouette drifted past.

And Elena realized—she was no longer alone inside the Glass Tower.

The city’s glass veins throbbed behind the window, a cold shimmer against the gathering dusk. Elena’s eyes burned with resolve.

The war for the Drake legacy had just begun.
