Bölüm 1

A Fallen Empire

The late afternoon sun slanted through the towering glass walls of the Blackwood family’s penthouse, casting long shadows across the cavernous living room. Dust motes danced in the amber light, drifting lazily above the once-polished marble floors now streaked with grime. The air was suffused with the sharp scent of stale perfume and something sour—money evaporating.

Aria Montgomery stood motionless by the floor-to-ceiling window, her breath hitching as she stared out over the city that glittered like a galaxy of promises and betrayals. Below, the streets pulsed with indifferent life: yellow cabs honking in a graceless rhythm, suited men darting through crowds with clipped strides, neon signs flickering to life against the creeping dusk. This metropolis was a beast—beautiful, brutal—and tonight, it felt like it was watching her, waiting for her to break.

The heavy oak door behind her creaked open. Her brother, Lucas, appeared, his tailored suit hanging loosely on bony shoulders, eyes sunken under dark circles. He carried a leather portfolio, its weight more felt in the burden it represented than in its material.

“Aria,” he said, voice low, rough with exhaustion. “We need to talk.”

She turned slowly, the glint of tears she refused to shed burning hot in her throat.

“I just got off the phone with the bank. They’re calling in the loans.”

Her temples throbbed with a sudden, sharp pulse. “But the projection reports—”

Lucas pressed a hand to his jaw, grinding his teeth. “Just last quarter, everything was stable. The board was confident. But then the audits came back. We—” He faltered. “We’re bleeding cash. Fast. Almost twenty million gone in six weeks. And no clear explanation.”

Her fingers clenched into fists. Twenty million. The number echoed in her mind like a death sentence.

“Where is it?” Her voice cracked. “Who’s siphoning it off? Is it sabotage?”

Lucas shook his head, eyes haunted. “That’s the thing. The money’s vanishing from accounts scattered across our subsidiaries. Some cyber breach, maybe. But no one can trace it. Someone’s clever.”

Aria’s heart hammered. Blackwood Enterprises wasn’t just a business to her. It was a legacy—her father’s dream, stitched into every boardroom table, every contract, every late night when she and Lucas stayed glued to spreadsheets, fighting to keep the empire afloat. And now, here in this penthouse that smelled of fading power and forgotten promises, she felt it crumbling beneath her fingers like brittle glass.

She stepped away from the window, the city’s noise muffled by triple-pane glass but not enough to drown out the chaos in her mind.

“We need to pull the audit reports. See every account movement. Social engineering, any unusual access logs,” she said, urgency sharpening her tone.

Lucas nodded, but the hollow in his eyes deepened. “Already on it.”

Aria’s gaze fell to the sprawling blueprint of their flagship skyscraper—their stolen foothold atop the city like a crown forged from glass and steel. The image of it fractured in her mind, as if the building itself could collapse under the weight of deceit.

Then the phone on the side table buzzed. Lucas picked it up, his expression tightening.

“Damien Crowley wants to talk.”

The name was a venom-laced whisper in their world. Damien Crowley—billionaire titan with a predatory grin, a shark circling Blackwood’s waters with shark’s teeth bared. Crowley’s empire had been nibbling at Blackwood’s edges for years, relentless, calculating. Rumors swirled that he delighted in dismantling rivals, piece by piece, not just to build his kingdom but to watch theirs burn.

Aria’s throat closed. She forced herself to breathe, to steady the spike of panic.

“He’s behind this,” she said beneath her breath.

Lucas didn’t confirm. Instead, he glanced toward the grand staircase that led to the family office—a fortress of legacy, now more prison than sanctuary.

“We need answers,” she whispered, stepping toward the stairs. Her footsteps echoed in the empty hall, each stride a countdown.

But before she reached the door, the lights flickered violently, plunging the penthouse into brief darkness.

When the emergency lights snapped on, a message glowed on their main screen—an unsigned notification, chilling in its brevity:

Game’s almost over, Montgomery.

Aria’s fingers trembled, the icy pit in her stomach widening as realization sank like a blade.

The war to save Blackwood had begun.

But who had dealt the first blow?

She pressed her palm flat against the cold glass, the city sprawling beneath her like a battlefield masked in glitter.

And somewhere in that endless haze of steel and glass, a shadow smiled.
