Bölüm 1
A gust of wind tore through the cracked windowpane, rattling the empty picture frames on the mantle. Stella sat hunched over the worn kitchen table, the weight of a dozen unopened bills pressing down on her like an iron shackle. The golden hues of sunset bled weakly through the tattered curtains, casting long shadows across peeling wallpaper stained with years of neglect.
Her fingers trembled as she unfolded the latest letter from the bank, the sharp scent of ink and damp paper mingling with the lingering aroma of fading jasmine tea.
"Final notice," she murmured, voice brittle, eyes scanning the terse lines again. "Seventy-two hours to settle the mortgage... or face foreclosure."
The air in the cramped room thickened, each breath shallow and aching. Her father’s worn photograph seemed to mock her—a smiling man who had built an empire now crumbling piece by piece under her fragile stewardship.
Tonight, the silence was broken not by the creak of the floorboards or the distant hum of city life, but by the thunderous pounding of her own heart—adrift between desperation and resolve.
A buzz on her phone jolted her upright. The screen flashed an unknown number. Swallowing the lump of dread, she answered.
"Stella Hayes," she said cautiously.
A low, measured voice hummed through the line: "Miss Hayes, this is Damon Vance. I believe we have a mutual interest."
Her breath caught. Damon Vance—the name dripped with cold power, whispered in boardrooms where empires were made and destroyed in a single signature.
"I… I’m listening," she whispered, fingers curling tighter around the receiver.
“Your family’s debts are considerable,” he stated flatly, as if reciting a well-known fact. “And your options are dwindling.”
A bitter laugh escaped her. “You’re not wrong.”
There was a pause, thick and deliberate, before he spoke again. “I’m prepared to offer a solution. One that requires certain... arrangements. A contractual marriage.”
The words hammered through her skull like a sledgehammer. Contractual marriage. The very idea seemed surreal, yet laden with the possibility of salvation.
"Why me?" she asked, voice cracking.
"Because, Miss Hayes," Damon’s tone sharpened, "you are the perfect shadow to my light. Together, we can conceal the fractures threatening both our worlds."
The line went silent, the dim room contracting around her. The choice dangled cruelly before her: succumb to desperation, or let everything she loved vanish forever.
Stella’s eyes locked onto the stack of bills—the sentence writ plain in black ink—and then to Damon’s name flickering on the screen.
Her throat tightened. Could she dare to say yes?
