Capítulo 1

Fall from Grace

The fluorescent glare of the boardroom lights buzzed overhead like a swarm of angry hornets. Elena Voss stood frozen, the polished mahogany table stretching endlessly before her, every eye locked on her with venom barely disguised beneath impeccable professionalism. The sharp tap of high heels echoed—Marcus Dain’s signature arrival.

He didn’t need to say a word. His dark suit was a blade, slicing through the suffocating silence. Elena’s jaw clenched, the metallic taste of betrayal curling at the back of her tongue.

“Miss Voss,” Marcus began, voice silk-threaded with menace, “the evidence is incontrovertible. The fraudulent transfers, the embezzlement—the board has no choice but to terminate your tenure effective immediately.”

At the other end of the table, a cluster of execs exchanged cautious glances. Some nodded, faces masks of cold pragmatism; others watched her with thinly veiled satisfaction. Elena’s heartbeat hammered against her ribs, each beat a deafening drum in the stifling air.

No one spoke up.

She forced herself to breathe, the sharp metallic taste of fear mingling with the underlying bitterness of injustice. She searched the room for a single ally, but the sea of polished suits was a wall of indifference.

“How…?” Her voice trembled but refused to break. “Where is the proof? I demand—”

“You’ll have your day in court,” Marcus cut her off smoothly, a smirk flickering at the corner of his mouth. “But for now, the board’s decision stands.”

A chorus of murmurs rose as the room seemed to tilt beneath her feet. Elena’s eyes locked on the dark wood paneling lined with screens flashing stock prices and news tickers: VOSS CORPORATION SHARES PLUNGE AFTER EXECUTIVE SCANDAL.

Behind her, the glass walls reflected a fractured version of herself—betrayed, boxed in, her empire crumbling like an ancient ruin under siege.

“I will clear my name,” she said, voice cold steel now, eyes burning with a maelstrom of defiance. “Mark my words, Marcus. This isn’t over.”

His eyes glinted with a predator’s satisfaction. “I’m counting on it.”

As the meeting adjourned, Elena’s footsteps echoed hollow down the marble halls, each stride a chasm deeper into exile. Her office—once a sanctuary of power—stood empty, the scent of expensive leather and polished oak replaced by the sterile chill of abandonment.

Outside, the city’s ceaseless pulse continued—unaware, uncaring.

Her phone buzzed sharply in her hand, jolting her from the spiral of fury and despair. A message, encrypted and unfamiliar, from an unknown sender:

“He was taken. The truth hides in shadows. Trust no one. Follow the Veil.”

Elena’s breath caught. Her father’s disappearance was supposed to be a closed case. A tragic accident, they’d said.

But the shadows whispered different stories.

Her fingers hovered over the screen, heart pounding like a trapped bird. The empire she thought she’d lost was alive—wounded, yes—but not dead.

And neither was she.

The game had just begun.
