Capítulo 1
Jaylen Cross’s eyes snapped open, tearing through the thick haze of a broken dream like shattered glass cutting through thick fog. The room was drenched in the sickly glow of malfunctioning neon flickers seeping through cracked blinds—cold blue and sicklime slashing across peeling paint and the stale, metallic scent of rain-drenched concrete.
His chest heaved against the sinking weight of a nightmare he didn’t dare remember fully—something fragile, something lost.
Outside, the city throbbed with fractured electricity. The streets pulsed under neon signs that screamed in garbled flickers of timeworn Kanji and data-slash. The usual hum of neon drones and distant sirens blended into a distorted, looping melody. Every second felt like a note looped, broken, and replayed into oblivion.
Jaylen swung his legs off the edge of the bed. The small room was cluttered with temporal gear—scattered data-slates humming faint blue runes, a cracked holo-screen blinking static, and a battered trench coat draped over a cracked chair. A meager apartment, but it was his war room.
Time was broken. And so was he.
A sharp tremble crept up his spine, tightening behind his ribs like cold wire. He rubbed his temple with a hand roughened by sleepless nights and endless reruns of the same cursed day. The clock on the wall read 6:17 a.m. Just like every other dawn.
The low rumble of the city’s heartbeat was interrupted by a subtle, synthetic ping. Jaylen’s eyes flicked to his wrist—the Chronolink device pulsing with an unfamiliar urgency.
He snatched it up, fingers trembling as his gaze locked on a new message blinking in stark red.
From: The Chronarch Subject: Help me.
The words scrawled like whispered thunder. Two simple words that sliced through his resolve. The name churned his stomach. The one who held the clock’s strings. The puppetmaster of endless loops. The tyrant who kept the fractured city trapped in this eternal dawn.
“Help you?” Jaylen muttered, voice ragged, sharp as broken glass. “After everything?”
His fingers hovered. The message’s timestamp was real-time—something he hadn’t seen in cycles. The loops were supposed to be sealed, unyielding walls he could never breach.
But this…
This was a crack.
The door to his apartment creaked. The dim hallway flickered under an uneasy shadow.
A sound, somewhere beyond the thin walls, unsettled him—a faint scrape, like metal on concrete, the hint of unseen footsteps out of sync with the loop’s rhythm.
Jaylen’s breath tightened. His eyes darted to the cracked holo-screen. It sputtered, then stabilized, displaying a swirling map of temporal rifts—a network of glowing fractures blinking erratically. A loop in motion, but now with a new pattern, an anomaly crawling into existence.
He grabbed his coat from the chair, every movement sharp and deliberate, a ritual burned into muscle memory.
A storm brewed outside. Neon washed the street in lurid colors: magentas bleeding into acid greens, fractured reflections twisting through rain-slicked glass. Time spun shards of itself, folding and unfolding like smoke.
This city—Neotokyo One—was a maze of frozen moments and cascading resets. Police drones hacked by glitches; alleys folding onto themselves; digital ghosts trapped in endless echoes. Normal was just a memory eaten alive by temporal rot.
Jaylen stepped out into the hallway. Every creak of the floorboards felt amplified, like a dropped pin in a cathedral of silence. His senses sharpened, catching the faint scent of ozone and burnt circuitry.
He reached the stairwell. The echo of footsteps followed.
Pausing, he pulled the collar of his coat tight, eyes scanning the flickering shadows for movement.
“Jaylen Cross,” a voice slithered from the darkness—a tone laced with mocking amusement, pixelated and warped like a corrupted data file.
Jaylen’s heart slammed, breath stalling in his throat.
But no shape emerged from the shadows. Silence swallowed the corridor again.
He cursed under his breath, swallowing the ball of dread rising in his gut.
The message. The footsteps. The pulse of the city all shifting.
The Chronarch was calling. And this time, the loop might finally be breaking.
Jaylen clenched his fists. The fragile thread of hope, taut and terrifying, stretched across the fractured dawn.
He pressed replay on the message.
Two words burned brighter than the neon outside.
Help me.
